Gunter H. Ruetter

Gunter has been a scientist, surgeon, emergency physician, medical officer, entrepreneur, and CEO, living and working on different continents for decades.

He earned his MD at the University of Heidelberg Medical School and his Ph.D. at the German Cancer Research Center. After taking the opportunity to join the University of Marburg Medical School, Gunter became a surgeon and a specialist in emergency medicine. He served as a medical officer of the German Armed Forces Joint Medical Service Air Force Reserve. He was elected secretary general and later president of the NATO-associated Interallied Confederation of Medical Reserve Officers (CIOMR).

Gunter spent six years in Washington, DC, and ten years in Singapore as an entrepreneur, chairman, president, and CEO in the life sciences industry. In addition, he worked as an emergency physician on ambulances and helicopters both onshore and offshore.

Gunter discovered his passion for maritime medicine and made it to a registered naval surgeon on world-renowned research vessels, cruise ships, and yachts. Since Gunter walked 3800 km the Way of St James, he runs a travel blog back home in the Azores. In addition, he has been an active SCUBA diver since his twenties, committed to ocean health and environmental protection.

Gunter combines scientific expertise with business-minded entrepreneurship and a passion for a healthy world. He has joined Earth 300 to unite the brightest minds and research institutions for the mission and guide all scientific operations.
